30 in 30 Day 11: Things Behind Gates

I’ve been interested in Sei Shonagon’s The Pillow Book since first hearing about it in 10th grade, so when napowrimo’s Day 9 prompt was based on the book, I was thrilled. Here’s what I came up with:

Things Behind Gates

Backyards

Open Pastures

Horses, chickens, and dogs

Fresh cut grass

Rainbow colored gardens

Children playing

Muddy shoes

Discarded umbrellas

Puddles

Crumpled daisy petals

Your favorite climbing tree

Swing sets

Bicycles

Sheets on a clothesline
hung in such a way
so as to make a fort

Sunny places
perfect for reading

Shady places
perfect for kissing

Memories

Secrets hidden in the knots of trees

Buried Treasure

Long lost items
recovered
by melted snow

Imaginations

Everything
